SPOTLIGHT ON: DEREK LAM

Classic A lines get a new twist with the fresh prints and colors of Derek Lam's 2013 Resort Collection. Lightly inspired by Eddie Murphy's Coming to America 90s prints, Lam's collection incorporates the vibrant energy of 90s color, with the sleek and chic lines of a more modern look. The collection features a wide array of styles from the jumpsuit to the swim suit.Although the line consist primarily of Maude neutrals, bright pops of jungle red and coral are smoothly incorporated along with nylon leather. The loudest pieces of the collection use giraffe and leopard animal prints while maintaining the classic lines of any Lam collection. This is a collection I have anticipated for a while and encourage those who can afford the pricey designer to run to your nearest Sax to purchase one of the best collections of the season!

Kony 2012. A DIFFERENT Kind of Year

So hard to believe it has been a whole year since I've written to this beautiful contraption of a blog. Wow. So much going on in life, but something really pushed me to return to you. Today is a renaissance of a movement alive for so long.. the Invisible Children. For those who aren't aware of the organization, it is an organization dedicated to stopping the African child rebel soldier forces from recruiting/ kidnapping anymore innocent children as well as rehabilitating child soldiers addicted to narcotics and psychologically damaged from the wars raging in many African countries over the last 3 decades (Sierra Leone, Uganda, the Congo, etc). The Invisible Children organization was socially revived today by means of mass media coverage exposing the harsh cruelties of child rebel soldier life, and the figurehead of the Uganda movement: Joseph Kony.
Though I am proud to be apart of a world so avidly and boldly fighting a tragic war on terror, I feel the need to remind us of the "Save an African Child" syndrome we so often have. By this I mean, yes what a wonderful cause and we should "Stop at Nothing," but let this not wash away as new news of celebrity pregnancy or a different, "sadder" natural disaster come into place. Let us truly, truly, truly  STOP AT NOTHING  to ensure where you live, does not determine IF you live. Let us remember Haiti and Japan and starving Americans, Occupyers, impoverished Mexican children, Gay rights, Vietnam veterans, Libyan government, ghettos, pollution, child labor. Let us Stop Kony, let us Stop INJUSTICE, but start it right now. Right here. In school, at work. By helping and loving our neighbors, AS WE LOVE OURSELVES. Everyday we are not a part of the solution we are a part of the problem.

Examples of Pitiful Indication of Craziness.... FAIL:

It's only funny that the E.P.I.C fail of the week goes to Chris Brown, because it's only Tuesday. As if going blonde wasn't bad enough, during Chris Brown's Good Morning America interview this morning he storms off stage and breaks a window after being asked questions about the Rihanna incident multiple times. I don't think there was any better way to show you are completely over the incident and that you DON'T have anger management problems. Oh, and F.A.M.E three thumbs down. Looks like his enemies aren't so forgiven after all. :)

little more than odd.

The group OFWGKTA or Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All is certainly an understatement when mentioning odd. They are the border line of hilarious, talented, and quite literally insane, all at the same time. The humor comes along when members unanimously agree that most of the music made that people take seriously as the evolution of the human mind is frankly an accumulation of the bored pastime they’ve spent turning meaningless words into lyrics. “Over, sloppy seconds is my preference. Except for when I'm feedin' on the flesh of a pedestrian,“ shows the creepy side of the group. But the real personality of odd future comes out on videos such as Earl Sweatshirt, where they concoct coke, weed, cough syrup, and other substances and make a video talking about a Keith Sweat concert they never went to, and a mediocre skateboard trick with they deemed epic. Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All is recommended to anyone looking for something mainstream but impractical and pretty funny. OFWGKTA is an accumulation of all the true lyrics of hip hop with an avant garde style. Radical released last year with comments from Tyler the Creator like “Fuck the Public, a track list with titles, Bruno Mars, and Steve Harvey”. Recommended songs are Yonkers, Ugly Girls, Bastard, Salute, and Drop. The main point of the whole group is to make serious lines with serious subjects in the most  sarcastic way possible. As named by Billboard magazine, Odd Future is definitely the future of hip hop.

bloom. bloom.

  KASIA STRUSS.

 SUZIE BIRD.

                          MELODIE MONROSE

With the cold air steadily blowing in on my side of the world, on the opposite hemisphere the coats are being shed and the flowers are being welcomed. Along with the full bloom of lilies, morning glories, and baby's breath comes the bloom of color. Rising from the dead of the monotonic colored fall line, Marc Jacobs RTW Spring 2011 line resurrects oranges, pinks, and soft reds. But what makes this season different from every Spring that has sprung in Jacobs' career? LEATHER. The mix of color combos not seen since the 70s along with leather skirts and trousers being paired with bold African prints inspired by Naomi Campbell's island parties makes for something guaranteed to be grabbed off the shelves. With the brown leather trousers not noted since days of Bianca Jagger, the fashion world is welcoming the revival of browns and pinks being paired with orange with open arms. Along with this revival is the return of wide-brimmed hats and open toed shoes, which is to say a nice transition from the clunky pumps of 2010. The shoes by Jacobs are returning style from party to pretty, a much needed change from the year of GaGa shoes. Thank you Marc Jacobs. Let Spring commence!

Groovy Baby. :)
